THEATRE

Covenant offers a theatre concentration as a part of a major in English as well as a theatre minor.

The following theatre courses, some of which are available through the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, are offered to students: Theatre, Introduction to Theatre, Performance and Production, Production Practicum, Play Analysis, Acting I, Acting II, Voice and Diction, Special Topics in Communication, Accents and Dialects, The Theatre to the Renaissance, The Theatre from the Renaissance to the 20th Century, Theatre Practice and Theory, Basic Design in the Theatre, Dramatic Arts and Christian Thought, Conceptual Foundations of the Modern Theatre, Directing I, Directing II, Playwriting, and History of Costume.

Many opportunities exist to work on plays on Covenant’s campus and at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

The renowned actress and acting teacher Uta Hagen wrote, “To be more than an adequate or serviceable actor, it takes a broad education in the liberal arts.” Theatre educators generally agree: thespians need a firm understanding of the many facets of life to produce their art effectively. A Covenant education in the liberal arts with a concentration in theatre powerfully equips graduates to work in the professional theatre.
