Covenant offers journalism studies to interested students as a part of the English program. As Joel Belz ’62, founder of World magazine, observes, a liberal arts education best prepares journalists for their craft. News writing is easy to learn, and a background in the writer’s subject matter of interest is essential to effective journalism.
A number of journalism opportunities are available to students. The English department offers a basic course in journalism, as well as a journalism practicum. Students may write for the College newspaper, The Bagpipe, attend the World Journalism Institute during the summer, and participate in the CCCU’s Washington Journalism Center.*
