We enjoy a large number of
home-schooled students in our student body. In fact, our population of students
who come to Covenant from a home-school background has risen from 4% in 1995 to
20% today!
Here we address a few topics that home-schooled students and parents are often interested in. If you have a question we don't answer here, please give us a call or e-mail and we'll be glad to talk with you.
Academic Requirements
Our academic requirements for admission are the same for home-schooled students as for all applicants: a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 and either a New SAT of 1500 (or 1000 considering critical reading and math only) or above or an ACT of 21 or above.
Your high school curriculum should include at least 16 units, with each unit representing one year of satisfactory work in a particular subject. We recommend that your units be distributed as follows:
- English: 4 units
- Math: 3 units
- History or Social Studies: 2 units
- Natural Science: 2 units
- Foreign Language: 2 units of the same language
- Electives: 3 or 4 units
Transcripts
As we require of all applicants, we will need a complete transcript of all your high school work for ninth through twelfth grades. An umbrella home-school organization or the teaching parents may submit your transcript to us. Your transcript should include:
- Years of study
- Course titles
- Letter grades
- Credits or carnegie units completed
- Grading scale
- Cumulative GPA
- Graduation date

Dual Enrollment
If you are completing any dual-enrollment courses (college-level courses that you want to use for both high school and college credit), please indicate the name of the college on your Application for Admission. Your dual enrollment coursework should be included on your high school transcript. To determine transfer credit, we will also need an official college transcript and catalog (or a URL to a webpage that contains course descriptions) for each college-level course.
Academic Reference
All applicants are required to submit an Academic Reference Form completed by someone who knows you in an academic setting. This form cannot be completed by a parent or any other relative. You may ask another teacher, tutor, music instructor, coach, or even a Sunday School teacher to complete this form. While the required form must be completed by someone other than a relative, we welcome any additional comments from your parents that will help us get to know you better as a student. Your parent(s) may write a letter of recommendation in addition to the Academic Reference Form.
Financial Aid Eligibility
Home-schooled students are eligible for federal aid if:
- You have completed a high school program (evident with a graduation date on a transcript or letter from your parents), or
- You are beyond the age of compulsory attendance of the state in which the college is located. The age of compulsory attendance in Georgia is 16.
