Purpose of the Covenant College Student Alumni Association
The purpose of a Student Alumni Association (SAA) is to provide the Alumni Relations Office with a group of students who can effectively communicate a student perspective of Covenant College to alumni, friends and donors, and to educate the student body about the importance of the roles alumni play, in giving, talking about Covenant, and networking.
We do this by:
- Maintaining a positive experience for students while at Covenant, promoting the involvement of future alumni.
- Encouraging student involvement in Homecoming and other interaction with alumni to foster Student/Alumni relationships
- Helping to foster young alumni relations by educating fellow students about the role of donors and the Covenant Fund
- Being ambassadors for College Development and Alumni Relations to Covenant students, helping to shape perceptions of these offices
History of SAA
The Student Alumni Association was started in 2003 after several students wanted to start an organization that would promote a positive spirit on campus and help students develop a better understanding of what it meant to be alumni. In the first year, Jeanne (Nunnallee) Rausch, Jeff Kyle, Beth Brodersen, and Matt Peele made up the leadership team and started out the year with a rousing pep rally for the fall teams. From there, they promoted the athletic contests throughout the year and branched out into promoting the arts on campus as well. Homecoming became their biggest event of the year with several events that combined the alumni and student groups to help the students make the transition from a student to an alum.
