COVENANT STAGES AMERICAN PREMIERE OF A BRIGHT PARTICULAR STAR
News :: Home

Covenant College’s Department of Communication will present the American premiere of award-winning Canadian playwright Ron Reed’s A Bright Particular Star February 15-16 and 22-23.

First produced in May 2006 at Vancouver’s celebrated Pacific Theatre, the play was originally workshopped at Atlanta’s “Art Within” writers program. The story is of George MacDonald, famous 19th century novelist and theologian, and his daughter Lilia, a young girl with a passion for the stage. It follows Lilia’s journey, urged by admirers such as Mark Twain, Lewis Carroll, and Kate Terry, as she attempts to follow her passion for theatre in a society which sees actors and actresses as little better than prostitutes.

A Bright Particular Star was dubbed “compelling, worthwhile, [and] truly affecting” by The Vancouver Courier and “a wholly holy conflict” by the (Vancouver) Westender.

A Bright Particular Star is directed by Associate Professor of Communication Camille Hallstrom. The cast includes the returning talents of Sarah Hamilton, Adam Carter, Amy Knutson, Rachel Yellen, Justin Johns, Nathanael Booth, Kelley Daniel, Colby Wilkins, and Kate Sarafolean and is rounded out by debut performances by Kevin Hartzell, Krista Barnett, Hannah Smith, and Bryan Mitchell.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors and may be purchased at the door.

A Bright Particular Star will be performed at Covenant College’s Sanderson Hall auditorium on February 15, 16, and 22 at 8:00 p.m. and February 23 at 2:30 p.m.
