Musical Theatre: Into the Woods

Covenant College presents five performances of Into the Woods, written by James Lapine with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The show, directed by theatre professor Deborah Kirby, opens April 5, 2013.

Into the Woods weaves characters from various fairy tales into the story of a baker and his wife, and their quest to start their family.

“I think that the audience will be amazed, first of all, with how the students have mastered this incredibly tough music,” said Professor Kirby. “Secondly, I think the story is terrifically told. The musical starts with a very light-hearted, although skewed, look at popular fairy tales and then progresses rather fabulously into a darker tale of what can happen when you get what you think you want.”

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel on April 5, 6, 11, and 12, and at 2:30 p.m. on April 13. Admission is $15 ($10 for seniors and Covenant faculty & staff and $5 for students). Tickets may be reserved by contacting boxoffice@covenant.edu or 706.419.1051.
