Rev. Grant Lowe Appointed Covenant College Chaplain
President J. Derek Halvorson announced on Friday, June 14, 2013, the appointment of Rev. Grant Lowe as chaplain of Covenant College. Rev. Lowe will assume his position on August 1.
“I am thrilled that out of a large and very strong pool of applicants, God has brought someone of Rev. Lowe’s unique pastoral gifts to the chaplaincy at Covenant College,” said Halvorson. “Grant is a gifted expositor of the Word, he possesses innate pastoral sensibilities to go with his extensive pastoral experience, he is a dedicated churchman, and he is enthusiastic about the peculiar work that we are called to at a Christian liberal arts college. We are blessed to have him and his family join our community, and I look forward to seeing how God will use him at Covenant College in the years to come.”
Rev. Lowe received his B.A. in English literature from the University of Kansas and his M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He has served in full-time ministry for the past 13 years, including ten years as the pastor of Second Congregational Church in Peabody, Massachusetts, and two-plus years as a pastor at Grace Pasadena Church, a PCA church plant in Pasadena, California. He currently serves as the coordinator of campus ministries at Providence Christian College in Pasadena, where he oversees the Providence chapel program.
“Rev. Lowe has an evident love for Christ and for his church,” said biblical studies professor Dr. Herb Ward, a member of the chaplain search committee. “He has a deep knowledge of the Word of God, and a shepherd’s heart coupled with many years of pastoral ministry. Grant will be a faithful guide to students in helping them better understand what it means to authentically love and follow Jesus in their own generation. I am convinced that he will be a blessing to many within the Covenant College community.”
In previous positions, Rev. Lowe has enjoyed building relationships with college and seminary students, and he is passionate about mentoring and discipleship. He is also devoted to faithful, expository preaching of the Scriptures. As chaplain of Covenant College, Rev. Lowe will preach weekly in chapel and will serve as the director of the chapel office.
Rev. Lowe lives in Pasadena, California, with his wife, Sandi, who is also a University of Kansas graduate and who holds an M.A. in church history from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. The Lowes have two daughters, Henri (14) and Flannery (10), and currently attend Arcadia Neighborhood Church (PCA) in Arcadia, California.
