Theatre: See Rock City
Covenant’s theatre & film studies department presents four performances of See Rock City, a play by Arlene Hutton, directed by Anne Patterson ’13. The play opens September 28, 2012.
“I knew I wanted to direct a show my senior year, and I read several plays and struggled for a while trying to find one that I really loved,” says Anne, who chose See Rock City after Professor Camille Hallstrom recommended it to her. “I loved the characters and the setting of the story. It is a play that at first appears to be fairly simple and straight forward, but with a little digging the intense complexity of the characters and their struggles become apparent.”
Set in rural Kentucky near the end of World War II, See Rock City depicts the challenges of starting a family in such violent times. “It is a question that is relevant to us today,” says Anne. “In the midst of our broken world, can things that are beautiful and good survive? These issues are addressed through the four characters with a great deal of humor and truth. It is truly an enjoyable and thought-provoking play.”
Anne’s cast consists of Kelsey Whitted ’13, Jamison Shimmel ’15, Bethany Post ’14, and Kacy Polk ’14.
Performances begin at 8:00 p.m. in Sanderson 215 on September 28, 29, and October 5, and at 2:30 p.m. on October 6. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children and students with valid ID. Call 706.419.1051 to make reservations.
