Chattanooga Named One of the Next Great Adventure Towns
The September 2008 issue of National Geographic Adventure magazine names Chattanooga, TN, one of the top twelve Next Great Adventure Towns in the Eastern region.
Chattanooga, recently named the "Second Best Town in America" by Outside magazine, made the cut for a Next Great Adventure Town because of its already thriving adventure scene as well as its plans to cultivate that scene further in the future. The magazine focused on cities that are not only great locations to visit, but ideal places for permanent adventure-seeking residents.
Covenant College sits atop Lookout Mountain, one of the mountains just minutes from downtown Chattanooga that add to the city's adventure-sport appeal.
President of Covenant's Outdoors Club, David Barr '10 says that he loves Chattanooga because of the variety of sports that are so easily available, such as hiking, cycling, whitewater sports, and rock climbing.
"The amount of quality cliffline on Lookout Mountain alone," says Barr, "has kept me busy for the past two years and will for sure keep me busy for the next two as well. There just aren't that many cities in the Southeast were you can go from downtown to climbing fantastic sandstone lines in twenty or thirty minutes."
