Taylore Mahoganny Scott and The Core Ensemble in Concert
On Friday, January 27, 2012, the Covenant Arts concert series continues with Ain't I a Woman!
featuring Taylore Mahoganny Scott and The Core Ensemble.
Ain’t I a Woman, a chamber music theatre work for actress, cello, piano, and percussion, celebrates the lives of four significant African American Women: ex-slave and abolitionist Sojourner Truth, novelist and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, folk artist Clementine Hunter and civil rights worker Fannie Lou Hamer.
Chamber music theatre is a unique performance format developed by the Core Ensemble featuring a marriage of theatrical narrative to chamber music performance. Taylore Mahogny Scott portrays multiple characters while interacting with the onstage musical trio of cello, piano and percussion.
“The musical score is drawn from the heartfelt spirituals of the deep South, the urban exuberance of the Jazz Age, and concert music by African American composers including Diane Monroe,” says Music Professor Jeanell Brown.
Scott will be accompanied by Tahirah Whittington on cello, Hugh Hinton on piano, and Michael Parola on percussion.
The concert begins at 8:00 p.m. Click here for more information.
