Phones...

Family and friends can call directly to your room. The direct number to each room is (706) 419-(4-digit extension). The building that you are in and the room number determine the extension.

Extensions for the residence halls are determined as follows: Carter = 2 + room number; Founders = 3 + room number; Maclellan/Rymer = 4 + room number; Andreas = 5 + room number.

For example, if you live in Carter Hall room 528, then your extension will be 2528, and your direct dial number will be (706) 419-2528. As soon as you have your housing assignment, you can let family and friends know how to reach you.

There is one phone jack per room, which means that you will share a phone with your roommates. Not everyone will need to bring a phone, as only one will be needed in each room. Get with your roommates to determine who will need to bring a phone from home.

While all analog phones will work on our system, not all features will. For example, even if your phone offers Caller ID, that particular feature will not work on our system. The phone will work fine, but the Caller ID information will not be displayed. 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz cordless telephones should not be brought as they work on the same frequency as the wireless network and can cause interference.

Yes, if you choose to do so you may bring an answering machine from home. Keep in mind that there is only one phone jack in each room so it will be shared with your roommate(s) and there is no need to have more than one per room.

Directly dialing long distance numbers is blocked by our telephone system. If you will need to make long distance calls from your room you can do so by using a calling card or any other method that involves dialing a toll free access number. Calls to 900 numbers, outside operators, and access numbers for ISP’s (Internet Service Providers) are also blocked.
