Favorite place on campus
Let me just preface this by saying I hate running. I am not good at it; it hurts. But, my favorite place—or places—on campus are the trails. It has been a slow process but now running on the trails in the late afternoon is my favorite time of day. Getting outside, expending energy after classes, and spending time alone to think or not to think is so necessary. And at some point when you look up from your feet pulsing on the trodden path, your body stops hurting for a second when you realize how beautiful it is here on top of the mountain.

Why did you choose Covenant?
It was the only campus that while visiting I thought to myself, “I wish I could be friends with these people. I wish I could BE these people.” And the people I was interacting with actually cared that I thought that and wanted me here.

How is Covenant unique?
Better question is how is Covenant NOT unique? The food service staff decorated the Great Hall spookily and had a ghoulish menu on Halloween. Student Development brought a petting zoo to campus for Student Appreciation Day. There is a toga dance party. Professors not only know your name, they have you over for dinner. We like going to chapel and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. We are located on top of a mountain. I guess this is what they call “community”: a really quality group of people from administrators to professors to students that all have a common goal and common bond.

What has been your favorite experience at Covenant?
Fall is my favorite time of year. Festivals create my favorite atmosphere, so the Fall Festival at Rock Creek, the church I attend at Covenant, has been great. I treasure a lot of memories that have happened on campus at Covenant events, but there is just nothing better than chili, kettle corn, live music, dunking booths, carnival games, and church community. Everyone was in a good mood. I laughed a lot that night with friends.

What has been your favorite class so far?
“Principles of Management” with Dr. Quatro has been my favorite so far. I think it should be part of the required core because in any profession, in any field, you will be working alongside people, either above them or below them, and you need to know the basics of how to work in a business environment to elicit efficiency and efficacy.

What made that class your favorite?
Dr. Quatro transforms the typical classroom setting into more of a work environment with him--teacher--as manager and us--students--as employees. The entire environment of the classroom mimics the whole idea of managers investing in people personally and professionally. Dr. Quatro spends valuable time giving his work experiences, asking about ours, and even just chatting about what we did over the weekend. It makes the theories and studies come alive and actually become applicable.

What person at Covenant has had the greatest impact on you, and why?
This answer comes in two parts for two great men—one by leading before me and the other by walking with me. My older brother, Alex, was a senior here when I came in as a freshman. He paved the way by example in his work ethic, his involvement, and his group of friends. He also challenged me personally on multiple coffee dates to spend less time critiquing and more time loving all the little details about Covenant. My boyfriend, Ross, has also challenged and matured me in my thoughts, words, and deeds. He has been a constant source of encouragement, wisdom, and fun every step of the way.

What’s your favorite part of the day at Covenant?
Early morning breakfast in the Great Hall—early being anywhere from 7:00 to 10:30 a.m. Breakfast is, of course, the best meal of the day but more than the good food there is always a good variety of people. It is quiet enough to do some catch-up studying and intimate enough to get in a group of morning people to get in some laughs to start the day.

What are your post-graduation plans?
Travel the world. See the sights. Work hard. Make a difference in my work. Get married. Make new friends. Keep old ones. Help someone. Grow in faith. Love the Lord. Basically the same plans that I have now.

How is Covenant equipping you for the future?
I have been able to participate in intelligent conversations about all types of various topics. The liberal arts education does not just prepare you for a job but prepares you to interact in all sorts of situations with all sorts of people. Covenant matures you in faith and knowledge.
