Activities
Hanging out with my hall, studying, being involved with my church, playing bagpipes for Covenant, and just being with friends and a cup of tea.

Favorite place on campus
I love lots of places on the campus, and I could easily make an argument for the Great Hall or the Overlook, but I think I’d have to say that my favorite place at Covenant is the Highlands commons. The commons is a great place whether it’s just a late-night conversation with one girl, or a hall event with everybody being crazy, or pancakes with our brother hall First Belz.

Why did you choose Covenant?
When I came on campus for the first time there was no doubt in my mind that this was where I wanted to be for my four college years. Even though there were many other options available to me, I actually didn’t apply anywhere else. The community and Christ-centeredness of Covenant were evident from just one weekend here, even in the classes. Every time I visited, I left with a bigger desire to come here and be a part of what I saw God doing through relationships and learning here! It was a no-brainer.

How is Covenant unique?
Covenant is unique in the way it does student life. Covenant operates not solely for academic studies, but for the student’s needs in all areas of life. I remember one time I had been having a rough day and came into class crying and when I got back to my room, my professor had sent me an email telling me that if I needed to talk I could stop by her office. It stuck with me as a picture of the emphasis Covenant puts on the student’s entire life. The idea that community and learning can go hand-in-hand to build up the body of Christ is a really cool thing.

What is your favorite class?
For me it’s a tie between General Psychology with Dr. Rulon and Interpersonal Communication with Dr. Vos. They both deal with why people are the way that they are, and I just find that to be the most fascinating thing to learn!

What person at Covenant has had the greatest impact on you?
I would have to say President Niel Nielson and his wife, Dr. Kathleen Nielson. I can’t say that I’ve spent a lot of time with them one-on-one, but the way they choose to live and interact with the students is so encouraging to me. It’s evident that this is not simply a job, but that it’s something that matters to them. Both Drs. Nielson speak in chapel occasionally and Dr. Kathleen Nielson spoke to our small group, and every time they have given me something good to think about. They just have so much wisdom that they are willing to share with us students, which I really appreciate.

What’s your favorite part of the day at Covenant?
Lunchtime! Everybody’s in the Great Hall; there are great conversations; you can catch up with people, meet new people - basically, it’s just great!

What are your post-graduation plans?
Well, eventually I want to have a family of my own and stay at home to take care of them, but until then, I have a few things that I’m very passionate about. I may go to seminary for counseling to work with young unwedded mothers, or work with an orphanage, or do missions, or I may stick around the area for a little while - we’ll see what doors God opens up in the next couple of years!

How is Covenant equipping you for the future?
The education I’ve received here is going to be valuable for the rest of my life. Not just the classes I went to but also the relationships I’ve formed and the community that has shaped and refined the way I think about things. Being here has forced me to find the truth and hold onto it.
