Favorite place on campus
The gym is my second home on campus and one of my favorite places. It isn’t only a place to work out with your friends, which can be full of camaraderie while working off the desserts from the Great Hall. But you can find a quiet place in the classrooms during the afternoon, which are a great place for your spiritual workout, before the physical one. It is also the place of intramural sports, whether playing or cheering on friends. I find myself going to the gym at least once a day and looking forward to seeing the coaches, athletic trainers, and student workers who fill the building with life.
Why did you choose Covenant?
I chose Covenant because of the small community atmosphere it offers. I also wanted to learn more about my faith. I knew I would receive solid teaching from the professors here at Covenant and not just from the Bible department, but through the integration of faith across campus. And having the opportunity to play soccer at the collegiate level was a real bonus for me.
How is Covenant unique?
The community that Covenant offers is definitely unique here at Covenant. I find community growing not only as a part of my residence hall experience, but also through my sports team and the other small group settings offered around campus. The small school atmosphere encourages growth in the students as a body of Christ and the community offered from it is one of a kind.
What has been your favorite experience at Covenant?
There are so many to choose from like being a part of the Lady Scots soccer team, being a part of hall events, and going hiking or caving. But the opportunities for prayer and praise to our Lord are most definitely one of the top. I have had opportunities to be a part of prayer and praise as a soccer team, through FCA and the Not to Us prayer and praise events, including people from all around campus. However, the most amazing opportunity is to be a part of the Carter prayer and praise, which includes everyone in my residence hall. It is great to pray with one another, encourage each other through God’s Word and to be reminded of where our focus should be.
What is your favorite class?
Well, there are two. General Psychology is one of my favorite classes because it was my first introduction to psychology in my life and provided me with an overview of the discipline that is astounding. Dr. Rulon organizes the course to equip students with a broad perspective of the discipline, including a conditioning project with your very own rat! The class really helped me discover there is so much to learn and that I wanted to major in psychology.
Secondly, I have been enthralled by Doctrine with Dr. Kapic. I have been interested in fine-tuning the understanding of my faith, one of my reasons for choosing Covenant. Dr. Kapic presents the information in a captivating way. I enjoy listening to him in class because I can tell he is well-trained in theology. However, even with all of his training, there is an excitement every time we reach a complexity in the Christian faith. Dr. Kapic may have a Ph.D. in theology, but I can tell that he has yet to be bored with the topic or the mysteries present in Christianity.
What person at Covenant has had the greatest impact on you?
My RD, Abby Sherratt, has made the greatest impact on me because of the way I have seen her care for each individual in Carter. Abby works hard to be a source of encouragement for each student under her, whether it is simply by remembering your name or baking cookies for a hall. I enjoy watching and learning from her servant leadership.
What’s your favorite part of the day at Covenant?
My favorite part of the day is the mornings. I enjoy eating breakfast every day in the Great Hall. There is such an offering of delicious morning foods I find myself sometimes making it the largest meal of the day. I also love going into the Great Hall on Saturday mornings, when most everyone else is still asleep, and working on homework with a cup of coffee. Sometimes it is hours before I leave, making my morning meal extend into the lunch hour.
What are your post-graduation plans?
I have no idea where God is leading me and I am excited to discover what he has in store. But right now, my dream job is a genetic counselor, which may mean graduate school is in the future.
How is Covenant equipping you for the future?
Covenant is equipping me for the future by teaching me to incorporate my faith into every aspect of my life. It is showing me how to redeem my future discipline for the Lord, as a Christian in the field. And not to forget, the superior education I am receiving in preparation for my calling.
