Favorite place on campus
The Overlook. It stills my soul!
Why did you choose Covenant?
My interest began because my pastor and his wife both went here. My parents really wanted me to consider it, believing it to be a good fit. After attending a preview weekend, I believed God was leading me here. Covenant is a blessed place.
How is Covenant unique?
The serenity of campus is a constant reminder of the Lord’s presence. But it’s much more than that. Covenant provides so many ways to grow, not only academically but also in His grace. The many ways that the faculty and staff intentionally love and serve the students are deeply encouraging. Atop this beautiful mountain, how could you not fall more deeply in love with the Creator of all beauty?
What has been your favorite experience at Covenant?
This is a difficult question; there are so many memorable aspects of the Covenant experience. Campus-wide events are almost always guaranteed to be a good time. Dorm hall events are great, too. The team spirit at sports events is contagious. But I would have to say that the spontaneous, fun times with friends will be my favorite memories of being at Covenant (taking a blanket outside to soak up some sun, going on a run or hike on the trails, making studying a little more fun by going to local coffee shops, baking cookies, painting nails, watching movies, driving down the mountain to Chattanooga for the evening, and the list goes on). As a benefit of this fellowship, the opportunity to be accountable to so many brothers and sisters in Christ is a huge blessing.
What is your favorite class, and why?
“Introduction to Teaching” opened my eyes to the complex role of being a teacher. Professor Kaufmann challenged me to wholeheartedly love my students with a humble heart.
What person at Covenant has had the greatest impact on you, and why?
Sweet, sweet Perseverance Bray. After staying with her for Campus Preview Weekend during my junior year of high school, I asked to stay with her over Scholarship Weekend during my senior year. During both visits, she reached out to me, leaving me little notes of encouragement, making me brownies and just shining the Lord’s light. She was an amazing resident assistant. I just love her! Her servant’s heart is an inspiration.
What’s your favorite part of the day at Covenant?
I am not a morning person, but the sunrises here are stunning. They always take my breath away and are always a great start to the day. But evenings are incredible, too. The city lights sparkling from down the mountain seem to punctuate the day’s end in a sort of chorus of light.
What are your post-graduation plans?
I hope to teach in a non-traditional environment or setting, and hopefully my duties will include teaching some form of dance. My major has changed a few times, and it might change again, so I am waiting on the Lord and trusting in His plan.
How is Covenant equipping you for the future?
The Lord is teaching me through the Covenant experience that I really was created to glorify Him, and that wholeness and fullness are found in Christ and Christ alone. Wherever he leads me, and in whatever he has me doing, these lessons will serve me the rest of my life.
