Activities
I’m involved in intramural basketball and soccer. I also co-lead a Bible study on Philippians. I co-teach Sunday school at my church; I love my first graders! Most of all though, I care about being with people and loving on them. I think it is safe to say the Lord stuck us on earth with other people because we are supposed to have intertwined lives. Now, if only I can figure out how to love them the right way! As John Piper says, “Love is helping other people towards God.” That is my ideal main activity. We’re working on it!

Favorite place on campus
My living room. I know, not the answer you would expect, but it is my haven. It is warm and cheerful. It hosts many, many great conversations, and keeps me company on long nights of homework.

Why did you choose Covenant?
I am really quite certain God chose Covenant for me. I had no interest in the school, but my grandmother bugged me until I agreed to visit. Much to my dismay, I fell in love with it. I saw more people serious about following Jesus in every bit of their lives than I had seen on any other Christian college campus. Not only that, but the community and love so evident on campus created a desire in me to be a part of it! Of course, now that I am here, I more fully realize Covenant is composed of broken people who do not always love perfectly—but I can also testify that the people and Covenant's focus on Christ’s preeminence have had a decided impact on my worldview and on my heart.

How is Covenant unique?
How many colleges are composed of one thousand people, an old hotel, and stuck on top of a mountain in Georgia? Really though, it all goes back to a serious vision for a Christ-first life.

What has been your favorite experience at Covenant?
Jazz on the Overlook, an event that takes place every fall, is a wonderful evening of swing dancing and jazz on the overlook.

What is your favorite class, and why?
I honestly cannot decide. However, one of my favorites is Dr. Haddad’s “Teaching in a Pluralistic Society.” It was one of my toughest classes. It challenged me as a writer and as a Christian. I had to grapple with my prejudices, even some I did not know existed. That class, among many others, is shaping a very different Christian than the one who came in.

What person at Covenant has had the greatest impact on you, and why?
Once again, I do not feel prepared to give a single person as the one with the “greatest” impact. However, I will say Dr. Beckman has made a big difference in my life. As my Christian Mind professor my freshman year, he started loving me with the love of Jesus right away. Despite the fact that he is always insanely busy and tired, he never fails to stop me in the hall to chat or invite me into his office for a twenty minute conversation—or even to meet with me to talk about grad school options. He shows real Christian care to everyone he encounters, plus he’s hilarious. I am challenged by his life to love people in a more real way.

What’s your favorite part of the day at Covenant?
Bedtime. It has become a very necessary part of life (Please imagine that this is said with a smirk).

What are your post-graduation plans?
That is a good question. There are a lot of fuzzy details, but I plan to teach in an elementary school somewhere for between three and five years, after which grad school is the next step. I am still unsure as to whether I will specialize further in some aspect of education or if I will pursue some form of counseling. In the middle of it all, I plan to make ends meet and love on the people around me.

How is Covenant equipping you for the future?
Well, first of all, I am getting my degree from a Christian perspective. Before I came to Covenant, I really did not understand what it would mean to learn about teaching as a Christian. It’s a big deal—and a huge challenge. Second of all, Covenant has helped me grow up a lot in Jesus. That will be invaluable in the years ahead, and I only hope to grow more.
