Student Profile: Grace Hooper '14
Residence Hall and Floor (for 2012-2013)
Carter, Third Central (3C)
Favorite place on campus
The Overlook is breathtaking. The library perfectly combines studies with community time. The Great Hall has the staples of food and people. But what takes the crown for me is being on my hall. 3C can be crazy, dull, sad, or exciting and still be home. I’ve enjoyed building a safe and loving place with these girls, so my favorite place on campus would have to be anywhere 3C ladies are bringing the party.

Why did you choose Covenant?
Up until Scholarship Weekend my senior year of high school, I was headed to a large state school. The strong sense of community and efforts of living in God’s name drew me to Covenant. I remember telling my mom when we pulled past Rock City, “Mom, I have to live here.” I did not choose Covenant because I could easily go there, find friends, and slip by, getting a college degree. I chose Covenant because I knew I’d become a part of a place where I could do more than simply exist; I could live.
How is Covenant unique?
In one word: community. We have not perfected what it means to always love your brother, but Covenant strives to live out the body of Christ in our community daily, especially when it isn’t easy.
What has been your favorite experience at Covenant?
Everything about Homecoming weekend makes me feel passionate and blessed to be at Covenant. A weekend filled with Jazz on the Overlook, the Highland Games, and soccer matches followed by fireworks can make any Scot’s heart skip a beat. I love the fun packed into a short weekend that makes me feel closer to the school and community, past and present. It’s the best reminder that Covenant is a part of something bigger and eternal.
What is your favorite class, and why?
I really enjoyed “Introduction to History” with Dr. Green my first semester at Covenant. I have always had a passion for history and Dr. Green’s class challenged me to examine the study of history with fresh, analytical eyes.
What person at Covenant has had the greatest impact on you, and why?
I wouldn’t be at Covenant if not for my lifelong friend, Rachel Carleton. She came a year ahead of me and encouraged me to come even when I told her I had other plans. She shows me Jesus every day by being a good friend and loving me even when I fall short.
What's your favorite part of the day at Covenant?
I love stepping into the Great Hall after my classes finish. There’s an indescribable comfort to be found in afternoon coffee or tea with new and old friends . I’ve met some of my best friends by taking a few moments in the Great Hall to breathe and relax with others in the community. I also never get tired of watching the sky change from the Carter windows.
What are your post-graduation plans?
I hope to enter Covenant’s master of arts in teaching program and go on to teach high school history.
How is Covenant equipping you for the future?
Covenant is filling up my toolbox with perspective and knowledge for living a life after Christ. I have no doubt that I am prepared to face any field I enter with confidence in my God and myself.
