Favorite place on campus
Jackson 108. This is the yearbook office. This office is the perfect place to find coffee and good company. It’s a good place to relax and get cozy. You're bound for a good time.

Why did you choose Covenant?
As often as this question is asked, I still reevaluate my stance every time. The simple answer is that I chose Covenant because it was a good distance from my home and I savored the idea of living on top of a mountain—just south of Chattanooga and only a couple hours north of Atlanta. I never actually visited Covenant before I came for freshman orientation, but the fact that I have stayed is a testament to the college as an institution. Rather than saying why I chose Covenant, I would like to state why I remain at Covenant. I stay because of the people I have encountered. Community is what makes Covenant what it is and I don't think you could find someone who disagrees.

How is Covenant unique?
I haven't been enrolled at any other university, but I know that the most humbling thing and unique thing about Covenant is the way in which professors engage with students and share their lives with us.

What has been your favorite experience at Covenant?
Of course there are many friendships, intimate conversations, and hall events that have left lasting impressions on me. But the best experience for me was at Mistletoe Mingle my freshman year. That event was the event which solidified in my mind why I was here. Mistletoe Mingle is an end-of-the-semester bash. It's always held on the last day of classes but before the final exams leading up to Christmas break. For three hours, everyone is able to let loose and forget the stress of exams. It's the best.

What is your favorite class?
Sociology of Religion—Dr. Matt Vos. It was the first 300-level course I took here and I was a bit nervous, call me crazy. But Dr. Vos challenged me to think about the reasons why different people groups are drawn to religion and what makes religion appealing or off-putting to certain cultures. This course demanded that I act responsibly and think intelligently. Dr. Vos made me think differently about things I know little about. One of the bottom-line observations in this course was that our natural response is to dislike things we are not familiar with. He encouraged us to be educated and to be critical thinkers.

What person at Covenant has had the greatest impact on you?
As a freshman, I was a little lost. I was overwhelmed and searching. There was a senior on my hall, Jess, who sought out a friendship with me despite the fact that she was nearly done . . . and I was hardly comfortable with myself or this new stage of life. She showed me how to love this place through her intentional conversations about the mountains outside her window, photography, and her passion for literature. I was never able to have an older girl as a mentor in high school, but Jess was a spiritual example to me and I'll forever be indebted to her.

What’s your favorite part of the day at Covenant?
This is too hard. I love the view over the mountains in the mornings when I walk up to breakfast. But I love the night life. Part of that is just because I'm a night owl.

What are your post-graduation plans?
My involvement with the Tartan and CAB have been important to me. I hope to use the experience I've accumulated in those areas to work as an event coordinator or wedding planner.

How is Covenant equipping you for the future?
Covenant has given me the opportunity to network as an individual. I've been able to use my interests and passions to connect with people who have similar traits. I feel like Covenant is training me to be a well-rounded worker and servant for whichever vocation I ultimately choose.
