Murfreesboro, TN

Biblical and Theological Studies

Residence Hall and Floor
Carter, 4th Central

O-Team leader, laughing and laughing often, studying for hours at Yellow Deli and in the library, deep conversations with people I love, Carter prayer and praise, working in the wonderful office of admissions, running on the trails, making new friends, smiling just because, drinking tea, and more.

Favorite place on campus
Words cannot describe how very much I love my hall. I love each and every one of the women who live on my hall. They are some of my closest friends here on campus; in a way, they’re family. I love all of our hall traditions, like Man of the Week, 4C Formal, wearing overalls, and eating at Cracker Barrel after the Rock City sunrise service on Day of Prayer. My hall truly has helped Covenant become my home.

Why did you choose Covenant?
I always knew that I wanted to attend a Christian college and I sought to find one that would be instrumental in shaping me spiritually and academically for the next four years of my life. I heard about Covenant very late in my senior year. My mother finally convinced me to take a look at the website and possibly apply. Something about it sparked my interest. I visited Covenant and saw a community of like-minded believers. I saw the motto “In all things Christ preeminent” lived out here on campus by students, faculty, and staff. I found a place where I could see myself living, working, growing, and learning. I found a home.

How is Covenant unique?
What other school can you find people from all across the nation and the globe come together as a family in Christ, all with the desire to learn and grow together? At Covenant, professors know your name. They actually care about you as a person. There’s also the petting zoo on Student Appreciation Day, and the fact that we live on top of a mountain.

What has been your favorite experience at Covenant?
Carter Christmas was a wonderful time that brought my entire hall together. Our hall was transformed into a farm. There were tons of hay, farm animals, Christmas cookies, overalls, and dancing in the “barn”. Every part of it was an incredible bonding experience, from making popcorn garlands at 2:00 a.m., to lots of laughter and fun planning, to ultimately winning first place, and then all of us getting ready together and making the treacherously icy walk in heels to Mistletoe Mingle.

What is your favorite class, and why?
I am a total psychology nerd. I love it so much. Dr. Mike Rulon’s “General Psychology” class has been one of my favorites. I sat in on his class as a senior in high school just visiting the College. At the time I was hardly interested in psychology but after spending fifty minutes in his class I would not stop talking about psychology for weeks afterward. Now, of course, it’s my major and it’s seriously the best. I love it. If you’re visiting and trying to decide what class to sit in on, “General Psychology” is the way to go.

What person at Covenant has had the greatest impact on you, and why?
Admissions Representative Amy Smith. While I might be slightly biased because I do work in admissions, I would not be a part of the Covenant community if it weren’t for Amy. She saw the potential in me to be here at Covenant, even when I didn’t see it myself. She worked with financial aid so that I would have the opportunity to attend. I am so very thankful that she saw that Covenant was exactly where God had for me to be.

What’s your favorite part of the day at Covenant?
Even though I’m often not awake to see the sunrise, I love early mornings when you watch the sun rise up above the mountains and see God’s creation on display in a million magnificent colors. It’s absolutely breathtaking. There truly are no words to describe it. You simply must come see it for yourself.

What are your post-graduation plans?
I hope to go to graduate school for psychology, but who knows but God? Ultimately, following his plan is what I long to do. Even though it’s cliché, I hope to make a difference in the world using my God-given gifts and abilities.

How is Covenant equipping you for the future?
The professors at Covenant very intentionally challenge us to integrate Christianity and academics. This is truly invaluable. I have grown and been challenged in my faith here at Covenant. I have learned so much about psychology, which is obviously pretty important. Even more importantly, I am learning how to join together in community with fellow believers and walk daily with the Lord.
