Activities
When I’m not working for Facilities Services in the Gym, I love hanging with my friends around campus, playing Heart-attack and Ninja, watching movies, or cooking scrumptious pizza and desserts. I am also involved with ballroom club, JV volleyball, and my local church.

Favorite place on campus
My favorite place on campus is the Andreas conference room, because I can walk in anytime and am nearly guaranteed to find a friend studying or hanging out. Having a place to relax or theoretically study with friends is very helpful when classes get tough. The Overlook is my second favorite place, however, because from there I can see the beautiful sunrises as I walk to work every morning.

Honors received at Covenant
Future Teacher Scholarship, Dean’s List, Athletics Academic Honor Roll

Why did you choose Covenant?
I chose Covenant when I was fourteen. My pastor had fallen in love with the college as his children were looking into colleges. Although they did not end up attending here, he started telling me about Covenant and convincing me to look into it, even before I was in high school. Being the overachiever that I am, I gathered as much information about Covenant as I could and pored over it. Years later, I was finally able to visit and God confirmed that it was His plan for my life. There were struggles to overcome, but I believe the only reason I was able to attend Covenant was because this is where God wants me to be.

How is Covenant unique?
Covenant is a perfect mixture of biblical foundations and a liberal arts education. Coming from a Christian school, I was committed to going to a college with a firm, Reformed basis for their teaching. I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of Covenant’s Christian community. In the midst of this Christian atmosphere there is also the opportunity to have fun and get a little crazy – which I greatly appreciate when the stress of classes threatens my sanity. Covenant has an excellent balance of a Christian family and occasions to have a great time with one’s brothers and sisters in Christ.

What has been your favorite experience at Covenant?
My favorite experience at Covenant so far was Spring Formal. Not only was it a night to dress up and look like a princess, but the dance was amazing. I have always loved to dance, so the opportunity to spend a night dancing freestyle AND swing was a dream come true! With all of my friends and classmates around me, it was a night I will never forget.

What is your favorite class, and why?
My favorite class is Children’s Literature with Dr. Pennington, because it consists of my two favorite things: books and children. I am deeply passionate about both of these subjects, so to learn and talk about them three times a week is fantastic! I know I will use what I have learned, particularly the notebook containing biographies of fifty children’s books. This assignment was hardly homework, but rather an excuse to sit down and read my favorite books for hours.

What person at Covenant has had the greatest impact on you, and why?
Dr. Beckman has been a wonderful teacher and mentor to me. He was my Christian Mind teacher first semester, and he helped me ever since. I feel I can go talk to him or email him anytime, with concerns about anything. Dr. Beckman is an inspirational teacher with passion and a heart for children (of all ages). I hope to learn all I can from him through classes and spontaneous conversations, so I can be an inspiration to my students as he is to me.

What’s your favorite part of the day at Covenant?
I love chapel, because it is a time to hear fantastic speakers exhort God’s Word and an opportunity to worship beside my friends and fellow students. I value worshipping together because it brings us together as a community, both a college community and a community of believers. I have heard many elder believers tell me to appreciate chapel because I will never be in such a community again – I believe they are right and intend to make the most of the opportunity to worship God.

What are your post-graduation plans?
I do not know where God will take me after Covenant, but I am willing to go where He sends me. A few options I am considering are to teach back at my old elementary school, to teach missionary children, or to teach in an international school.

How is Covenant equipping you for the future?
Covenant is preparing my heart and my head to serve Him more fully. I am being taught how to see His work of redemption in all parts of life, from volleyball to classes about diversity. Covenant is also helping me develop friendships that will last a lifetime, both with students and with teachers. I believe when I graduate from Covenant I will be able to touch the world for Christ, one small child at a time.
