POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible to the Head Athletic Trainer for, but not limited to, assisting in the coordination of the overall athletic training program, implementation of medical coverage for all student-athletes, and maintaining the daily operation of the athletic training facilities. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Discipleship of direct reports and student athletes under the care of the training room
  • Supervision, and development of interns, and work study students in the training room
  • Assistance in recruiting and retention of student athletes through the pursuit of excellence in athletic training 
  • Assist in the care, prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of student athletes athletic injuries, as well as record keeping, administrative duties and operation, maintenance, organization, and professional appearance of the athletic training room and equipment
  • Provide medical coverage for all teams during all practices and all home events and selected away games
  • Provide medical care under the input and supervision of the team physician 
  • Coordinate medical communication between the student-athletes, coaches, on campus health services office, and physicians
  • Coordinate the collection, input, organization, and maintenance of the student-athlete’s medical records including determining medical clearance for participation
  • Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies
  • Ordering all appropriate supplies while also planning for, and oversight of the athletic training budget
  • Contributing to, and caring for, the development and growth of the athletic department as a whole
  • Comply with the NATABOC Standards of Professional Practice, and NATA Code of Ethics
  • Assist in the partnership with UT-Chattanooga Athletic Training program to provide qualified interns each year
  • Potential exists for teaching health and fitness related course(s) for qualified candidates 
  • Other duties as assigned

COMPETENCIES
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other administrators, coaches, students and faculty members. 
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Must display a strong commitment to adhering to all policies, rules, and regulations of Covenant College, USA South Athletic Conference and the NCAA.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • NATABOC certification, Licensure in the State of Georgia; CPR/AED certification
  • Proficiency with Google Apps or Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Master’s Degree from a CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Program
  • 1-2 years collegiate level experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer
  • First-Aid/CPR instructor certification
  • Understanding of NCAA regulations as they relate to sports medicine
  • Professional Strength and Conditioning certification 
  • College teaching experience

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • An acceptance of and commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  • An understanding of the mission and purpose of Covenant College
  • Must be able to assent to Covenant College’s Staff Commitments
