the Covenant experience narrative

The Blue Tribune is your place to learn about all things Covenant and keep up with stories from campus and beyond. By guiding you through the different aspects of Covenant, we'll help you decide if you want to pursue your very own Covenant experience.

Faculty Feature: Dr. Sarah Donaldson

Faculty Feature is a series in the Blue Tribune that recognizes the excellent professors and staff of Covenant College through a series of questions.

This week we're highlighting Dr. Sarah Donaldson, Associate Professor of Mathematics.

What brought you to Covenant? How long have you been teaching?

I've been teaching at Covenant full time since 2011.

What is your history with Covenant?

My dad taught Chemistry at Covenant from 1967-2002, and I am happy to be the first ever second-generation Covenant professor! My mom is a Covenant alumna, and I myself graduated from Covenant in 1998. I have three other relatives (two uncles and an aunt) who are retired Covenant College faculty, and my grandfather taught at Covenant Seminary.

What do you love about teaching at Covenant?

I am fully on board with Covenant's philosophy of Christian higher education, and am excited to be part of furthering the mission of the college. But what I really love about teaching is of course the students!

What is your history with the PCA or Reformed Tradition?

I grew up in the PCA and am a member of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church. I've been attending LMPC since I was 10 years old.

What's your favorite Covenant tradition?

All the Scottish connections, especially anything with a thistle on it.

What is a current research project or area of interest you're excited about?

Teaching mathematics through problem solving.
