“When I grow up, I want to be…”

How did you finish that sentence as a child? As you get older, adults often ask you what you want to do with your life, but instead of dreaming of actors, astronauts, athletes, and artists, you might feel overwhelmed.

God created us to be part of something larger than ourselves, and as you consider potential careers, you’re likely seeking life-giving, meaningful work. At Covenant College, we believe that God gifts us with unique talents and calls us to do work in His world that displays His glory. This is part of your calling, but finding your calling is a journey and requires a bit of help.

That’s where the Center for Calling & Career (CCC) comes in. The CCC exists to help students identify where their skills and desires intersect with a need in the world - and then to boldly pursue a calling that utilizes their talents and fills a gap.

“If God calls you to something, most of the time He gifts you the abilities to do it, and He gives you the interests and passions. I think He usually puts talents and passions together to help us find our callings.” - Priscilla Strom ’72

Help in Finding Your Calling

Every Covenant College freshman works with the CCC to begin thinking about their career path, which will help guide them through their college career. The CCC also supports students with resources to build strong resumes, write cover letters, prepare for interviews, and develop networking skills.

Fun fact: Over 67% of our student body completes an internship while attending Covenant College.

Help in the Job Search

When it comes to finding internships and a job after college, it’s hard to know where to start. Thankfully, Dr. John Plating and Leda Goodman are available to assist in every step of the process.

Dr. Plating serves as the office’s director and external interface, working with corporations, agencies, and organizations both locally and nationally to establish opportunities for Covenant students.

Leda has years of experience as a professional resume writer, as well as being a business owner herself. She is well-connected in the entrepreneurial world in Chattanooga and the broader Covenant network. If you’ve never crafted a resume or cover letter, no need to stress - Leda is a key resource for you.

Visit the Center for Calling & Career page to learn more about their resources, available jobs, and more.
