COVID-19: Update for Alumni: Once a Scot, Always a Scot

Dear fellow Covenant College alumni,

As you may already know, Covenant has moved to online instruction for the remainder of the spring 2020 semester. President Halvorson shared this message with you on March 20th via the alumni social media pages; we wanted to be sure you received it via email as well. All updates on Covenant College’s continued response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) can be found here and on our social media pages.

We greatly appreciate your concern and support for our students and the Covenant community, and we welcome your continued prayers. As we navigate this unknown territory, your kind words truly encourage us. We have heard from many of you who are looking for ways to help our campus community directly. Here are some ways to continue to encourage and support the Covenant College community:

  • Send an email to Covenant College employees. Here are links to a faculty directory and a staff directory. As we all chart our course through these extraordinary times, I hope you will provide encouraging words to those working to carry out Covenant’s mission. Please be praying especially for our senior administration.

  • Pray for the college:

    • Faculty - as they are teaching on a new platform

    • Students - as they adjust to virtual learning, praying that they will remain connected to each other

    • Pray that God will preserve Covenant College’s community and make us effective in our mission

  • Adopt an international student. Nesha Evans, Associate Dean of Students, has created an International Student Support Network. If you are interested in assisting or connecting with our international students during this time and/or in the fall, please fill out this Google form. Nesha is happy to answer any questions you may have.

  • Help your region's admissions counselor. If you don’t know who your region’s admissions counselor is, find and connect with them here. If you know a potential future Scot who is interested in learning more about Covenant and being a part of our Virtual Visits, send them this link. They can schedule a time to speak with an admissions counselor to learn about our campus, community life, academics and more. Are they interested in athletics? We can connect them with a coach as well.

  • Participate in our continued chapel services. The following is a note from our chapel office:

    • In order that the Covenant College community might continue to encounter Jesus together, the Chapel Office will be having chapel every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11-11:35 AM EST. Each video will be livestreamed here, and we invite our entire community to watch and worship together with the knowledge that your Scots brothers and sisters are doing the same in their various locations.

  • As always, we encourage you to stay in touch via social media on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We'll be sure to share any further updates and videos there. You can also check our website to see the updates that our students are receiving, and you can subscribe to our monthly eNewsletter. If you want to encourage students by sharing your Covenant stories and/or express solidarity with the students, tag us (@covenantcollege) and use our hashtags (#wearethescots #scotsstories #covenantcollege #onceascotalwaysascot).

Again, thank you for your continued prayers. Please know that we are also praying for you, as we recognize that many of you are facing difficult and unexpected changes. Please feel free to send your specific prayer requests to so that we can continue lifting up our Covenant community.

We have no doubt that God is at work through all of this. I hope you are reminded that we serve a faithful God who loves his creation and desires human flourishing. Over the last several weeks, I have been reminded that Covenant alumni embody faithful trust in our Lord, and I hope we all can continue to serve God faithfully through this challenge. We are the Scots. We come from the mountain. We are in this together.

Cheering you on,

Sara Kaitlin
