Robert Lawless to Speak at Brock Forum on Authentic Christian Leadership

Covenant College is pleased to present Robert J. Lawless, chairman of the board of McCormick & Company, as guest speaker for the third annual Brock Forum on Authentic Christian Leadership. Mr. Lawless will speak on Friday, January 30, at 10:00 and 11:00 am in the chapel auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.


The Brock Forum was established in honor of Dr. Frank Brock, who served as Covenant
College’s president from 1987 until 2002. Dr. Brock set a marvelous example of
servant-leadership at Covenant, following his previous career in executive leadership with the Brock Candy Company. The annual Brock Forum provides the opportunity to celebrate Dr. Brock’s achievements in business and in the community, as well as to focus on the perspectives and applications in business and commerce that shaped his life and leadership.

Mr. Robert Lawless Mr. Robert Lawless is chairman of the corporate board of directors of McCormick & Company, a global leader in the specialty food product industry.

He previously served as president and CEO of McCormick, retiring as CEO in 2007. Mr. Lawless oversaw a series of key acquisitions that added to the company’s global portfolio of market-leading brands. During his eleven years as CEO, sales for McCormick grew from $1.7 billion to $2.9 billion. Profit nearly doubled, and the stock price tripled.

Mr. Lawless is a member of the boards of Believe In Tomorrow National Children’s Foundation, Maryland Business Roundtable for Education, Inc., Governor’s Workforce Investment Board, and the Junior Achievement of Central Maryland Executive Council. In addition, he serves on the corporate boards and is compensation committee chair of both Constellation Energy Group of Central Maryland and The Baltimore Life Companies of Owings Mills, Maryland.

Born in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, Mr. Lawless attended Lambton Central Collegiate Institute in Petrolia and graduated from college in Windsor, Canada, with a major in chemistry. He is married to Cathy, and they have one daughter and two granddaughters.
