New Baseball & Softball Complex Opens

New baseball and softball field at Covenant College, the Christian liberal arts college of the PCA

A new baseball and softball complex is now open at Covenant College.

The Scots baseball team opened the 2009 season with a doubleheader on their new home field on Saturday, February 7.  They defeated Atlanta Christian College 10-0 in the first game, and fell 5-0 in the second.

"It was a great atmosphere to play in," says Head Baseball Coach Doug Simons. "We will definitely have larger crowds at home than at Engel Stadium," where the baseball and softball teams played their previous two seasons.

"I'm deeply excited about the chance to play at home, on Covenant's campus," says centerfielder Thomas O'Ban '10. "I think it's had a reviving quality for our players and our coaches, and given a renewed excitement for both Covenant baseball and Covenant College."

Coach Simons adds that the on-campus fields allow student-athletes to spend more time in classes, because of a shorter commute to practices and games, and he expects the faciltiy to help with recruiting.

The complex is located on the southernmost end of campus, past Shadowlands Soccer Field. It includes oversized bullpens, batting cages, and spacious dugouts.
