Covenant College Theatre Department Presents "Peter/Wendy"
The Covenant College Theatre department will perform Peter/Wendy on April 13-14 and 20-21, 2018. In this lyrical and dreamlike rendition of J.M Barrie’s iconic play, the original story of Peter Pan is stripped down to its emotional essence, highlighting the story’s most poignant themes.
Peter/Wendy, adapted by Jeremy Bloom, was selected by director and alumna Abigail Degraaf ’17 for her directorial debut. Degraaf was looking for a whimsical play that retold a story she and the audience already knew and loved. “There’s a lot about Peter Pan that highlights the beauty and terror of a child’s imagination,” DeGraaf points out, “and one of the things that’s true about the imagination is that it’s hardly ever linear.”
Though still true to the original plot and characters, this nonlinear and “atmospheric” rendition of Peter Pan explores darker themes within the play such as the limitlessness of imagination and the real presence of evil. Wendy is portrayed by Mia Connell ’21, and Levi Orren ’20 portrays Peter Pan.
Peter/Wendy will play in Sanderson Auditorium on April 13-14, and 20 at 8:00 p.m., and April 21 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors, students, and employees. Patrons can also attend a final dress rehearsal on April 12 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for the dress rehearsal are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors, students, and employees.
