Covenant College hosted the Highland Games and Bakertree Festival on Saturday, April 16, 2011. "The Highland Games is a festival, featuring the six traditional Scottish games," says Charlie Swing, coordinator of student leadership.

Seven clans made up of participating students competed in the games, which included the brae mar stone, caber toss, and hammer throw. The winning clan, McLaurin, received a Scottish claymore sword and plaque, which will go on display in the Great Hall. Spectators and participants also enjoyed a 5k run, haggis eating competition, and a clan flag competition.

Swing was pleased with the success of the new event, noting that some students are already "looking into starting a Highland Games club on campus, which would give students the opportunity to train, compete, and even travel to other highland games."

Following the games, the Bakertree Festival featured live music, food, and tables from various vendors and student clubs.
