Spring Choral Festival: With Heart & Soul
The Covenant College chorale and chamber singers, in collaboration with the jazz and percussion ensembles, will present their spring concert on April 23, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. in the Dora Maclellan Brown Memorial Chapel.
Under the direction of Dr. Scott Finch, associate professor of music, the chorale and chamber singers’ spring concert will center on the theme of emotions. Titled “With Heart & Soul,” the concert will highlight the power of the resurrection in every aspect of life.
“It’s a concert that talks about our emotions at a time when anxiety seems at an all-time high,” said Finch. “We are doing pieces that talk about how we express our emotions in the world in light of what God has done.”
In addition to the inclusion of the jazz and percussion ensembles, the concert provides the opportunity to collaborate with the local Lookout Children’s Community Chorus and Hilger Higher Learning Choir.
The concert will include a variety of musical styles, periods, and compositions. The chorale and chamber singers will present R. Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs, accompanied by Vangie Wykoff ’03 on the organ and featuring baritone David Tahere, assistant professor of music.
“The five mystical songs talk about the hope of the resurrection by using George Herbert poetry,” said Finch. “We can be at rest not because we have it all together but because Christ rules and reigns and His resurrection is both cosmic and encompassing. So our whole being, one day, will be renewed and restored in a way we can’t even imagine.”
The spring concert is free and all are warmly invited to attend.
