Art Exhibit Reception and Lecture: Dona Barnett

An installation of works on paper by Dona Barnett will be on display August 23-October 7, 2012, in the Covenant College art gallery on the second floor of Kresge Memorial Library. The exhibit is called "now but not yet."

Barnett holds a bachelor of fine arts from the University of North Carolina Asheville. In her artist’s statement, she writes about “the Now and Not Yet, the human longing for completion.” In exploring that desire, she has dedicated much of her recent work to depicting nests, eggs, and birds, particularly crows.

“I observe them behaving a little like we humans do,” Barnett writes, “squabbling yet sticking together, fighting over food, yet sometimes patiently sharing, foolishly pursuing shiny objects in the face of danger. They represent for me human nature, fallen since the beginning of the world, awaiting redemption in Christ's return.”

A reception will be held August 29, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., followed by a lecture at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
