Day of Prayer
Covenant College’s bi-annual Day of Prayer is September 24, 2014. Classes are put on hold for the day as students, faculty, and staff take time to gather as a community and pray. The theme for this autumn’s Day of Prayer is found in Psalm 46:10-11:
“He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.
The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.’”
Covenant’s Day of Prayer begins at the Rock City overlook, just a few miles away from the College. Students gather together for a time of prayer and worship as they watch the sunrise from the mountain. Early risers enjoy donuts and hot chocolate, provided by Covenant’s Psi Chi honor society.
“Day of Prayer is more than a day off from school,” said Morgan Sharpe, president of the Psi Chi society. “Like a holiday, it beckons us to take time to remember something—in this case, prayer. I once heard the word pilgrimage used in reference to the sunrise service and I think that is fitting—it’s a small pilgrimage Covenant students can choose to take to worship and pray together at Rock City. To me it is a powerful time, as we are so fully enveloped in creation and usher in the sun with worship.”
Students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the gathering at Rock City on the morning of September 24.
