Global Gospel Advancement Week

Covenant College’s annual Global Gospel Advancement Week begins on November 11, 2013, with a chapel talk from Gerry Gutierrez. Gerry and his wife, Julie, are Mission to the World (MTW) missionaries to Peru. Originally from Peru, Gerry earned a BA in philosophy and psychology from the National University de San Cristobal de Huamanga de Ayacucho. Before returning to Peru, Gerry served as a missionary in Chile, and as the Washington representative and director of international relations for Mission to the World in Washington, DC.

Dr. Cliff Boone will serve as the guest speaker for Global Gospel Advancement Week. Dr. Boone earned his MDiv from Columbia Bible Seminary and a PhD in theology from the University of Wales, Lampeter. Dr. Boone is the senior pastor of Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship Church in Allentown, PA. Before coming to Cedar Crest, he planted churches among the Sandawe people of Tanzania. His current church home in Allentown has helped send three missionary teams to other unreached peoples in Tanzania. Dr. Boone has published a book on his favorite theologian, John Flavel, titled Puritan Evangelism: Preaching for Conversion in Late-Seventeenth Century English Puritanism as Seen in the Works of John Flavel.

In addition to special chapel services, the week includes an international dinner in the Great Hall featuring food from around the world and a missions fair in Carter lobby on Tuesday, November 12. The missions fair will give students the chance to interact with representatives from MTW, the Rafiki Foundation, Wycliffe Bible Translators, and the English Language Institute/China.

“Global Gospel Advancement Week gives us at Covenant a strong reminder that God is at work all across the globe, and challenges us to remember God's faithful work through his people in spreading the good news of Jesus and drawing men, women, and children from all different backgrounds to Himself,” said Christiana Fitzpatrick, special programs and mentoring coordinator in the chapel department. “I'm also looking forward to Tuesday, when we'll have a variety of those who are working in cross-cultural missions with different agencies on campus to talk to students about opportunities for them to partner now and in the future.”
