Other interest on and off campus

Enjoying time with the good friends that I have made at Covenant, finding new and good restaurants, most things coffee related, tea, intramural athletics (particularly flag football), playing soccer in the rain.

Favorite thing about Senate

Senate provides a unique venue for students to develop their ability to communicate with both peers and people of authority. Additionally, it provides a unique environment in which students can train their administrative and managerial leadership with the input of godly mentors. Our faculty adviser, Dr. Jack Beckman, is an amazing man of God with incredible wisdom.

Why Senate?

Throughout my two previous years of service on Student Senate as class president, I have grown in incredible ways. Now that I am a senior, I wanted to serve as Student Body President because it offered new experiences to grow my leadership ability and it is a position that focuses on enabling others to effectively lead. Through this, I am able to give back to Student Senate and, more importantly, to the student body by working to keep the Student Association working efficiently. Many of the initiatives that I would like to pursue involve putting leaders around campus in an environment where their leadership is tested, stretched, and encouraged, thereby developing the future leaders of Covenant College's student body.

Other interest on and off campus

I love hanging out with my friends, exploring Chattanooga, watching movies and reading good books. I love outdoor activities such as hiking, camping and climbing.

Favorite thing about Senate

The people that make it up. Hands down. I love the support and encouragement that I receive and the challenge of leadership.

Why Senate?

Senate has played a huge role in shaping my experience at Covenant. Senate provides me with an opportunity to invest myself in the student body and contribute to the fellowship and community that we all have at Covenant. In the words of Lord Byron, "...And when we think we lead, we are most led."

Other interests on and off campus

Going down the mountain and studying in coffee shops, reading, intramurals, wandering around downtown Chattanooga, and just relaxing with the guys in the Cabin. But, it doesn’t get much better than watching college football on Saturday afternoons in the fall.

Favorite thing about Senate

I enjoy the organizational aspects. There is a ton of stuff that goes on behind the scenes between Senate, club leaders, and students. I love the stuff that most people think is boring, like just making sure everybody is getting paid and preparing the budget. You’ve got to love the meetings too.

Why Senate?

It’s a wonderful opportunity to use the skills I have acquired in the classroom in a practical way to serve the students. And, it’s just a lot of fun!

Other interests on and off campus

Some of my specifically "on-campus" interests include the Campus Stewardship Committee, my hall of two years, Sutherland (REPRESENT), and spending whatever time I can with the incredible friends I've made over my past three years at Covenant. I like running and photography, as well as anything pop-culture related, good literature, and writing. Oh, and I also love coffee and anything related to it.

Favorite thing about Senate

I like being a representative of my entire class. I know that there are various personality types, backgrounds, and interests that make up the Class of 2012, and I personally enjoy the challenge that comes along with representing such a diverse group of people. Also, I love the people that I have the opportunity to work with on Senate because they all have a heart for and deeply care about Covenant.

Why Senate?

I first considered running for Senior Class President because of my own experience at Covenant and how I have been loved, challenged, and grown here. I see serving on Student Senate this year as an opportunity to love well and give back to the community that has given me an immeasurable amount.

Other interests on and off campus

Profound books, profitable conversations, study group parties, green tea frappucinos, Chattanooga trips, hiking trails, and hall events are a few of my favorite things.

Favorite thing about Senate

I love the broad perspective that being in this position of responsibility gives. Senate makes decisions about a wide variety of issues and student senators interact with many peers, faculty members, and administrators alike. I love that senate gives such a broad awareness of and appreciation for the effort that contributes to making Covenant the school that it is.

Why Senate?

Senate is a way to serve and invest in a college that continues to serve me so well. Oh, plus I get to go to meetings with wonderful people and plan events for my class!

Other interests on and off campus

The Walnut Street bridge, Blue Skies, Lindsay Street Hall, the bluff, froyo at Sweet Cece’s, Rock Creek Fellowship, Yellow Deli granola, and Chattanooga Football Club in the summer. Exploring Chattanooga as often as possible has been one of the best things about this place. Sometimes it’s hard to get off-campus because there are a thousand and one things going on around campus, but I’ve never regretted a trip down the mountain. As far as on-campus things go, I love the Tartan Office, the Great Hall (primarily the conversations it naturally provides), CAB, and when everyone is scattered around campus in and around their hammocks.

Favorite thing about Senate

Everyone at Covenant is pretty invested in one particular area. The unique thing that I love about Senate is that it's where all those people, who are invested in different things, meet. Not only am I forced to think about the betterment of my peers and closer friends, but I am enabled to think about the areas on campus and the students here that I do not normally run into or have much interaction with. Altogether, Senate is a forum for open discussion and deliberation about things that can and will affect the broader community at Covenant.

Why Senate?

I love knowing what’s going on on campus and being able to communicate that with my peers. Senate/CAB was a natural part of the equation.

My favorite thing about Senate is being a part of things the college is working though, while getting to work with administration and student leaders. It's a unique and rewarding opportunity, and I get to work with great people!
