Alpharetta, GA | Author, Public Speaker, and Biblical Counselor, Connection Point Biblical Counseling and Training Center

What first interested you in your career? How did you discern your calling?
I love helping women see how the gospel intersects with their daily lives, bringing life and hope to a fallen world. That's what drew me to writing and later brought me to speaking. It's why I work as a biblical counselor.

Getting to where I am was a journey. When I started at Covenant, I knew I wanted to help people. My vocational path has taken many twists and turns, and I've ended up doing work I never imagined myself doing.

What has your life looked like since graduating from Covenant?
My career path has not looked like my original plans. God has taken my gifts and used them in ways that surprised me. He is always faithful to provide just what I need when I need it. It's especially exciting to me to witness his work in my son's life as he is now a student at Covenant. He is experiencing all that my husband and I experienced. I see him blossoming from his experiences of being in community with other students. I see him thriving spiritually and academically. God is good.

Looking back now, how did Covenant prepare you for your career and for life?
My sociology classes prepared me to work with people. My Bible classes prepared me to write and speak on the Bible. I learned to study the Bible at Covenant and those lessons have remained with me. Overall, Covenant taught me how to think biblically and how to view the world through the lens of Scripture.

In what ways does your faith inform your career?
I view all of life through my faith. The gospel speaks to everything that happens in my life. The good news of what Jesus did for me in his perfect life and sacrificial death speaks to everything from challenges with raising teens to getting bad news from the doctor, from traffic annoyances to paying the bills. Every day I engage with God about the trials and troubles of life and receive fresh grace to live for his glory in this fallen world.

What advice would you give students who are considering Covenant?
I always recommend going for a visit. Experiencing what it's like on campus makes a huge difference. For those considering a career in counseling, I would suggest researching the field, doing internships, and interviewing people in the field. For those who want to write, I would suggest making writing a daily habit.

Why did you choose Covenant?
I wanted to attend a Christian college and when I came for a visit, I fell in love with the location and the opportunity to grow in my faith in such a beautiful setting.

What are some fond memories or a favorite story from your time at Covenant?
My favorite times were those spent just sitting in the lobby of my dorm talking late into the night with fellow students about what we were learning in the classroom. Covenant did a great job of fostering community both among the students and with the staff and faculty. I learned what gospel-centered community looks like as I lived with students in the dorms, talked about matters of faith in the commons, and was encouraged to grow in holiness by my RAs. Those lessons continue to shape my life.
