What to expect for move in day

There can be a mix of emotions surrounding a college move-in. Setting realistic expectations is a good way to ease some of the worry that comes with such a big life change.
What to Expect
As the start of college approaches, students often experience a range of emotions. Anxiety about what lies ahead is usually near the top of the list. I remember being concerned about nearly all aspects of moving into college. Practical questions about how my room would be set up to less urgent things such as whether I would need to wash my clothes the first day I am there. The unknown can be stressful so, here are some Covenant specific tips for move-in and orientation week.
Embark has a schedule with dedicated time for getting moved in, unpacking, meeting your new hallmates, class-mates, and some down time for settling in. You will also have the opportunity to hear about campus traditions, Hall-life from your RA, and from President Brad Voyles.
Move-in Day
You are assigned a thirty-minute minute window for arrival and unloading, not for completely moving in. Don’t worry, no one expects you to be done unpacking in thirty minutes.
When you arrive, members of the Covenant community will greet you and direct you where to the right unloading zone. Once you’re there, staff, students, and faculty will be there to assist you.
A good way to make that transition seamless is to pack in uniform things. For example, packing everything you can in IKEA-style bags can speed up the process. It can also help to make moving out super easy, because they are small enough to be folded up and stored in the dorm room.
After everything is moved out of your car, you will be directed to your room by residence life staff. Whoever is driving your car will be told where they can park, and can join you shortly. You can go on up to your room to begin unpacking with your family or friends.
The halls on move-in day are a flurry of excitement and there is often a lot going on. Your main priority should be to have your room comfortable and liveable. Almost no one completes the look on move-in day, there just isn’t enough time. You will have more time to unpack in the coming week.
Embark includes scheduled events throughout the weekend. Saturday evening you will have time to say goodbye to your family. There is a block of free time, but even then there may be many things you want to do or accomplish.Your goodbye may not feel perfect, but knowing that ahead of time can help you be thoughtful about how you spend that time together.
